Frequently asked questions

Do you see clients in-person or virtually?

To continue to keep you, me, and those we love safe, I am only seeing clients virtually through a HIPAA- compliant platform. I am available to see clients living anywhere in Texas. And yes! Online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy!

Some benefits to online therapy include:

Convenience and Accessible Care: With online therapy, you can do a therapy session from anywhere— as long as you’re in Texas! Without needing to factor in time for travel (especially in Austin, amiright?), you’re able to have more flexibility with your schedule. Clients have come to virtual therapy sessions while taking a walk, sitting in the park, right before or right after work, on their lunch break, parked in parking lots, while breastfeeding, and from their bed!

With virtual therapy sessions, you have access to providers from around the state. This has been huge for individuals living in more rural or secluded areas where there may not be a lot of options for care. When you have more options, you are better equipped to find a therapist that is a great fit!

Increased Comfort, Decreased Stress: For some people, therapy is a nerve-racking commitment. When you are able to see your therapist from the comfort of your own home, you might find it easier to go deeper, challenge yourself, and explore emotions around difficult topics. Not to mention; when we can cut out other barriers such as bad traffic, worry around being on time, social distancing anxiety, or feeling stressed you will see your ex in the waiting room— it makes it easier to show up for yourself and come to session.

How long are therapy sessions?

Appointments are either 55 or 90 minutes unless otherwise discussed.

What days do you see clients?

Monday-Friday by appointment only.

Do you see couples or do family therapy? What about kids?

I only provide individual therapy to adults 18 years old and up. If we are working together and there becomes a need for couples counseling or family therapy, I am happy to provide referrals for you to do that in addition to individual therapy.

Though I think kids are cool, I do not currently work with them. I am happy to provide referrals for a therapist who does.

Do you accept insurance?

I no longer accept insurance. I accept payment by credit card, HSA, and FSA accounts at the time of service. Many insurance companies offer some reimbursement for out of network psychotherapy. Upon request, I am happy to provide you with a Superbill at the end of each month. You then can submit the Superbill directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement or to meet your deductible, depending on your plan’s out of network benefits.

The best way to be sure of your benefits is to clarify with your insurance company member services line. You can find this phone number on the back of your insurance card or through your online insurance platform. Ask these questions when speaking to your insurance company about benefits:

  • How much of my deductible has been met this year?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health?

  • How much does my plan reimburse for an out of network provider for CPT code 90791 and 90837?

  • What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient mental health?

  • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?

  • How do I submit claim forms or superbills for reimbursement? (Claims are forms that are sent to your insurance company to receive reimbursement for sessions you paid for out of pocket.)

There are apps/websites such as Superbill and Reimbursify to help make the out-of-network reimbursement process easier and can submit claims on your behalf.

* Superbills have a diagnostic code on them, therefore making diagnosis known to your insurance provider.

What are your fees?

*I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs and therapy goals with me before scheduling the first appointment*

The fee for a 60 minute intake/initial session is $190

The fee for a 55-minute individual session is $175.

Based on availability, I also offer 90-minute sessions for $230 for clients doing EMDR and want a longer session.

I have a limited number of sliding scale spots that I am able to offer on a case by case basis.

Good Faith Estimate-What is a GFE & Your Consumer Rights

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate. You can do so before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
